SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Make a drinks list you can talk through.
Start with water and alcohol-free drinks. Add alcohol service only if it is part of your day. Every number here is an editable shopping assumption.
Per guest, per hour: 1 water servings + 0.5 alcohol-free servings.
Adjust serving assumptions
These starting rates illustrate the calculation. They are not suggested drinking amounts. Adjust with your caterer for the weather, menu, duration, and your guests.

67.63 US fl oz per packageServings and whole packages round up. This may leave stock over. Water and alcohol-free drinks cover everyone. Mixers are counted as ingredients for spirits, not another drink.
Pour sizes & package sizes
The starting wine and spirit pours are 5 and 1.5 US fl oz. NIAAA uses these volumes at 12% and 40% alcohol respectively as examples of a US standard drink. Stronger drinks or larger pours contain more alcohol. Beer is counted by individual container; check its size and strength.
A list to bring to your bartender
Confirm drink choices, pours, ice, glassware, water access, and whether unopened stock can be returned. The calculation estimates purchases from your inputs; it is not a recommendation for how much anyone should drink.
